03. Manufacturing

Primet’s NanoScission™ materials are produced with scalable, robust, low-cost industrial processes capable of making both current and next generation materials. Primet has separated material synthesis from particle synthesis. We use the best method for synthesizing the material a customer needs and convert that material to the appropriate engineered particle. The key benefit to separating particle engineering from materials engineering is that each operation becomes more individually attainable.
Separating the two operations is possibly the single dominant advantage to the emerging designer materials space. Now, materials are generally specified according to what is available. In the emerging materials market, designer materials of totally new compositions are specified from first principles and then are optimized for a particular functional property.
Conventional particle processing methods increasingly face challenges in making smaller particles. As smaller particles and tighter distributions are specified, suppliers face critical limitations in their ability to produce materials to customer specification. Current industrial scale manufacturing processes for particulate materials are reaching their limits. As the manufacturer tries to push the manufacturing process to smaller sizes, more variability on the supply side is occurring. This impedes progress in the commercialization of advanced materials.
Our processes are very effective with small particle size requirements. The smaller the particle size, the more reproducible is Primet’s NanoScission™ material. The smaller the particle size, the tighter are our results as opposed to conventional processes. With conventional processes, the smaller the particle size the more variability batch to batch you can expect to have. Primet believes this will become the norm. Today, designers often face challenges in making the material and/or in making particles of the material. Primet excels in this area. Most materials have the same cost of particle synthesis in Primet’s process. This enables mass customization of advanced materials.
